Dugout Mugs Teams Up With David Ortiz For Super Celebrity Shootout Charity Event
Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz played host for the Super Celebrity Shootout Saturday night at Topgolf in Tampa and Dugout Mugs was honored to be a key sponsor of the event.
Together, athletes, celebrities, and guests guests teamed up to raise money for both the David Ortiz Children's Fund and Tampa Bay Buccaneer's wide receiver Chris Godwin's Team Godwin Foundation. (Congrats on the Super Bowl Championship Tampa!!!)
"We've worked with Big Papi in past and it's a great opportunity for us to collaborate once again," Dugout Mugs CEO Kris Dehnert said. "We're here in the Tampa Bay area so the event was right in our backyard. So obviously, we're all going to support Papi and all the great things he does."
Ortiz returned to the Tampa area after numerous trips to Tropicana Field as a member of the Boston Red Sox. This go-round, the 10x All-Star, 3x World Series Champion, 2013 World Series MVP, and 7x Silver Slugger Award winner won’t be slugging home runs. Instead, he will be driving golf balls to raise money for the David Ortiz Children’s Fund, which provides critical cardiac services to those in his native Dominican Republic, as well as New England who can’t afford it.
"It's all about the kids," Ortiz said Saturday night. "I know it has been a tough year, last year with the pandemic and all of the stuff going on, but we have to continue providing and continue raising money so we can save lives."
In his fourth season as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, wide receiver Chris Godwin has quickly become a leader on the offensive side of the ball and a fan favorite. Godwin, who couldn't attend due to his squad playing in the Super Bowl, recorded his first 1,000-yard season in 2019 and was second in receiving this year. His charity, the Team Godwin Foundation provides at-risk animals a second chance through advocacy and financial support.
“It means a lot to me to get involved with this awesome event right here in my backyard,” Godwin said prior to the event. “When David asked me to help raise money for the DOCF as well as my Team Godwin Foundation it was a no-brainer."
